A New Kind of Thanksgiving

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving! I’m here early again, sneaking into your inbox before the turkey goes in the oven, so we can talk gratitude before the gravy starts flowing. I hope you don’t mind! Besides, I know how email can pile up like mashed potatoes—especially if you’re reading this with cranberry sauce on your shirt.

Whether you’re scrambling to “get everything done before the holiday” or you’re already in the thick of “make-ahead side dish” mode, I’m here with a few fresh gratitude ideas to bring some deeper meaning—and maybe even a laugh or two—into your day.

The Gratitude Warm-Up

We know that gratitude can shift our focus, lift our spirits, and maybe even make our lives a little more magical. So, this Thanksgiving, let’s dive deeper than the usual “I’m grateful for pie” (even if we really are). Here are some questions that just might add a new dimension to your reflections—or even spark a meaningful conversation at the table.

Five Fresh Gratitude Prompts

1. Who’s someone you’re grateful for that you haven’t spoken to in a while?

Bonus challenge: Reach out to them with a text, call, or even an old-school letter! Nothing like a “Hey, remember me?” to brighten someone’s day—and maybe yours too.

2. What’s one “unexpected blessing” from this past year?

Sure, maybe it wasn’t a blessing in disguise at first, but could it be now? Think about the moments that didn’t go as planned but led you somewhere surprising.

3. What’s something that brings you joy daily—but you might take for granted?

Maybe it’s the first sip of your morning coffee, a cozy sweater, or even the pet that claims “their” spot on your couch. Take a minute to really appreciate these simple joys. Extra credit if you don’t stop at one!

4. What’s a skill or trait you’ve developed that you’re grateful for?

This one’s about you. What’s something that has helped you grow or get through a tough time? Think of a strength you now rely on that wasn’t always there. This is a great one to share with family or friends—how often do we thank ourselves for our growth?

5. What’s a memory that always makes you laugh?

Got a funny story that brings a smile or a laugh every time you think of it? If you’re at a family gathering, tell it! Laughter bonds us, and funny memories are a gift in themselves.

These aren’t your typical “what are you thankful for” prompts, I know. But hey, sometimes going a little deeper (or sharing a good laugh) can make us feel even more connected—to ourselves, to our people, and to what really matters.

Giving Thanks for You

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for allowing me to share a bit of life with you. It’s a privilege I don’t take lightly, and I’m so grateful to have you in this circle.

And, hey—if you’re willing to share a response to one of these questions, I’d love to hear it. Which question resonated with you the most? What funny memory brought a smile? Whatever it is, I’m all ears.

Happy Thanksgiving, my friend. Let’s soak in the joy, the gratitude, and maybe one more helping of mashed potatoes. 😊
